Weekend Movie Preview

The Other Woman Review: Leslie Mann Steals the Show

The weekend movie preview for this final weekend in April features a comedy about women finding friends (The Other Woman) and a horror flick that is based on some spooky real experiments from the '70s.
And then there is, sadly, one of the final films in Paul Walker's career -- Brick Mansions.

The Other Woman: Cameron Diaz portrays the title character, although as we stated in our The Other Woman review, this is absolutely Leslie Mann's movie. Mann plays a wife who discovers that her husband is having an affair with Diaz, and Kate Upton. The three form an unlikely bond over their cheating man and discover that friendship can run deeper than love. The film avoids a million chick flick cliches and is oftentimes funny and has a lot of heart. We just felt it needed to be a little more grounded in reality.

Brick Mansions: Walker plays a Detroit cop in the near future who has to head into the worst part of town (known as Brick Mansions) to prevent a dirty bomb from being lobbed into the city and killing millions. Walker is astounding, but this action film belongs to the supremely talented Frenchman who invented Parkour -- David Belle -- and there is plenty of that action in this flick. For more, check out our Brick Mansions review.

The Quiet Ones: Jared Harris stars as a British professor who is conducting a slightly unethical experiment. It is all in an effort to get a woman to manifest a poltergeist. When they realize she really is possessed, the horror truly happens! Our The Quiet Ones review found that the film truly spooks and will leave you thinking about its morality long after the credits have rolled.

I'll ask my wife before doing sex comedy: Govinda

I'll ask my wife before doing sex comedy: Govinda

Tampa Bay (Florida): Bollywood`s undisputed king of comedy, actor Govinda, has nothing against sex comedies, which are a trend in tinsel towns nowadays. However, whether he will be part of such a project or not is a decision he would want to consult his wife for.

Asked about his take on sex comedies, Govinda said here: "I feel whatever gives business...somewhere it is right. Something which is accepted by everybody cannot be wrong. Whichever comedy it might be, I think comedy is comedy."

Is he open to sex comedies? Pat came the reply: "Well I will have to ask Sunita (my wife) about that,"

While he seems to be embracing the new twist to comedy films in the Hindi movie world, he is also happy about young and new talent in the industry.

"Ranveer, Varun...everybody is doing well. These youngsters are working hard. We have never worked so hard. In our times, we were only actors, we were not body builders.

"The youngsters are great, they are fantastic...May god bless them," he added.

Govinda is here to attend the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Weekend and Awards, with his wife Sunita in tow.

Jolie chimes in about what appealed to her about the story, and Elle Fanning (who plays Sleeping Beauty) also talks about when she watched the original Disney animated movie, why she wasn’t scared of Maleficent. In fact, there was something about the character that intrigued her. Us too!
Screenwriter Linda Woolverton (The Lion King) also talks about her ideas for “reinventing” the Sleeping Beauty story, and director Robert Stromberg talks about the world he’s created that is still firmly in the Sleeping Beauty landscape, but pushes the envelope much, much further.

Lupita, Johansson in talks for Disney's 'Jungle Book'

Lupita, Johansson in talks for Disney's 'Jungle Book'
Los Angeles: Disney is eyeing Oscar-winner Lupita Nyong`o and Scarlett Johansson to be added to the voice cast ensemble of a new big screen adaption of `The Jungle Book`.
While Lupita, 31, who scored an Oscar for her debut film `12 Years a Slave`, is in final talks to voice Rakcha, a mother wolf who adopts Mowgli, Johansson, 29, is in negotiations to lend her voice to the character of Kaa, the python who preys other animals.

In Rudyard Kipling`s India-set story, the plot follows the adventures of Mowgli, a young boy raised by wolves whose friends include a bear and a panther in the jungles of India.

Kaa is the second villain for Mowgli. The other enemy is man-eating tiger, Shere Khan, who would be voiced by Idris Elba.
No actor has been announced for the main character and his trusty friends, Baloo the bear and Bagheera the panther.

Jon Favreau would be directing the upcoming adaptation, while the visual effects will be overseen by Oscar-winning Rob Legato and Justin Marks will write the script.

Disney plans to release the movie across the country on October 9, 2015.

Batman-Superman Movie Finds Its Cyborg

 Batman/Superman Comic Illustration - P 2013

A New York theater actor has nabbed the part of Cyborg in the untitled Batman-Superman movie being made by Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment.

Ray Fisher, who is perhaps best known for portraying a young Muhammad Ali in the stage production Fetch Clay, Make Man, is in negotiations to play Victor Stone, the promising football player whose life is derailed and is forced to become the hero known as Cyborg,

Batman-Superman is on the surface a sequel to Man of Steel, which starred Henry Cavill as Superman, but it is also acting a building block to a bigger DC film universe.
Already cast in the movie are Ben Affleck as Batman and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman. The movie has several other actors whose parts have not been revealed, as Warners is trying to keep the whole process mysterious and secret.
Stone/Cyborg was for decades a member of the Teen Titans, a group of heroes that included the sidekicks of adult heroes such as Robin, Wonder Girl and Kid Flash. The character became retrofitted to be a member of the Justice League in 2011, when DC Entertainment relaunched its comic book line as the New 52.
Warners quietly added the character to its casting call several months ago, when it began looking for a physically fit black actor. The part at the time called for only one scene but promised more in terms of future movies.

Brick Mansions Exclusive: RZA on Why Paul Walker Is So Special

 Walker & RZA

Brick Mansions stars Paul Walker as a Detroit cop in the near future who is assigned to head into the toughest part of town, called Brick Mansions, and find a dirty bomb before it is shot into the heart of the city. The film also stars RZA, who had the honor of appearing with Walker in one of his final film roles.

What we found interesting is how RZA felt that in many ways, he had to refer to Walker in the present tense. “I’m going to say that Paul is a unique guy. I’m not going to say he was. When you look at the magic of film, it captures us. That’s a blessing.”
Check out the Brick Mansions trailer to get an idea of the action fest that is set to hit theaters April 25. And speaking of action and Walker, watch Fast and Furious 6 online and see what it is that is so special about Paul Walker.

 CELEBRITY BEHAVIOR: John Travolta

John Travolta will receive the “Most Popular All-time International Star in India” award at the 15th International Indian Film Academy Awards in Tampa Bay, Florida on Saturday night.

Travolta is well known in India for his memorable roles in music and dance -heavy cult classics of the past three decades, from Grease to Saturday Night Fever to Pulp Fiction. But it wasn't immediately clear why the IIFAs -- an awards show held each year in a different international city to promote Indian cinema -- is naming Travolta the superlative Hollywood star in the country. Representatives of the IIFAs couldn't be reached for comment.

Kevin Spacey will also be brushing shoulders with top Indian talent at the event. The House of Cards star is scheduled to host an acting masters class along with Bollywood actress Vidya Balan.
This is the first year the IIFAs are being hosted in the U.S. Organized by Mumbai-based event management company Wizcraft Entertainment, the IIFAs include various events and run from 23-26 April, culminating in the awards ceremony at the Raymond James Stadium.
A galaxy of Bollywood stars are expected to perform at the awards, including top actresses Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Sonakshi Sinha, along with actors Hrithik Roshan, Ranveer Singh and Farhan Akhtar, among other celebrities.

'Walking Dead' Actor Steven Yeun, Felicia Day Voicing Comic Adaptation 'Chew'

Stephen Yeun Felicia Day - H 2014

Walking Dead star Steven Yeun and Felicia Day, the creator of web series The Guild, are voice-starring in Chew, the animated feature adaptation of the popular comic from Image Comics.

Jeff Krelitz, who helmed the animated Torchwood: Web of Lies and Peter Panzerfaust, is directing the project, which has a script by Chew co-creator John Layman.
Krelitz is producing with David Boxenbaum via Heavy Metal, the duo's multimedia company. It will be the company's first animated project.
Chew centers on a detective who is a "cibopath," a person who gets psychic impressions from whatever he eats, and is set in a world where bird meats are illegal after bird flu killed millions of Americans.

The book's trade paperback collections have hit the New York Times' best-seller charts, and the comic has won two Eisner Awards, one for best new series and one for best continuing series, as well as two Harvey Awards.
Yeun is voicing the detective, Tony Chu. Day is voicing his love interest, a food critic named Amelia Mintz who is a "saboscrivner," someone who can write about food so precisely the reader actually feels like they are tasting it.
Chew is being executive produced by Scott Boxenbaum, Layman, and Chew's other co-creator, Rob Guillory. It's being co-executive produced by former BBC executive Dan Tischler.

The producers are aiming for a digital broadcast and home entertainment release.
Yeun is a longtime reader and fan of the series, and was considered by the filmmakers to be a no-brainer to play the Asian-American Chu. He is repped by Paradigm, Gotham/Principal and Hansen Jacobson, and will next be seen in Fox Searchlight's sci-fi movie I Origins, which opens July 28.
Day has been a fan of the book since 2010, when she called it "sublime" and "original" in a tweet.  The actress-comedian, repped by WME and Lichter Grossman, has also appeared on shows such as Supernatural and Eureka.
